Muso Jikiden Eishin-ryu Iaido (Iaijutsu) is the Japanese martial art of sword that emphasizes drawing and cutting with the samurai sword (called the “katana”) in one fluid motion. Muso Jikiden Eishin-ryu is a “koryu bujutsu” (which mean traditional martial art) with a direct lineage dating back over 450 years to its founder, Hayashizaki Jinsuke Shigenobu, who developed this particular style.
The current headmaster and 20th headmaster of our branch of Iaido is Miura Takeyuki Hidefusa, Hanshi, Jyudan (10th dan black belt) and founder of the Nippon Kobudo Jikishan Kai (Japanese Ancient Weapons True Spirit Association).
The Jikishin-kai USA & International continues the tradition of Muso Jikiden Eishin-ryu iai-jutsu outside of Japan under the instruction of Masayuki Shimabukuro, Hanshi, hachidan (8th dan black belt) and “Black Belt” magazines 2006 weapons instructor of the year. Shimabukuro Sensei is a direct student of Miura Sensei and has studied Iai-do (Iai-jutsu) for over 30 years.
The Jikishin-kai honbu dojo emphasizes traditional practice and application of the techniques in the Muso Jikiden Eishin-ryu curriculum. This curriculum encompasses the practice of WAZA (solo techniques of which there are over 40), KATACHI (paired patterns using a wooden sword or “bokken”), and TAMESHIGIRI (test cutting using a live/sharp sword to cut rolled mats). These three components serve to reinforce and improve the other to make the student of iai-jutsu aware of proper body mechanics, focus and technique for the effective use of the sword. All three of these, plus the integral observance and practice of sincere etiquette make up the core curriculum of Muso Jikiden Eishin-ryu Iai-jutsu.

SHINDO MUSO RYU JOJUTSU
Jo-jutsu is the art of the short staff. The “Jo” itself is a wooden staff approximately 4’ long. Like Iai-jutsu, Jo-jutsu traces its roots back to the time of feudal Japan and the Samurai warrior class.
Shindo Muso Ryu Jo-jutsu was created by Muso Gonnosuke, after suffering defeat in a duel against the famed swordsman Miyamoto Musashi.
The art of Jo-jutsu is almost 400 years old and consist of 64 waza (forms) and 12 basic kihon (fundamentals).
Jo-jutsu is taught as a companion art to Iai-jutsu as both are very complimentary arts and the techniques and applications learned from one are very applicable to the other.
